Skin concerns - dryness and dehydration
Tightness and dryness in the skin are immediate signs of dry and dehydrated skin. Although these two conditions have similar symptoms, they have very different triggers at a cellular level. Learn the difference between the two and find the perfect Dermalogica products to provide you with hydrated, healthier skin.
The terms ‘dry skin’ and ‘dehydrated skin’ are often used interchangeably. At their simplest, both dry and dehydrated skin lacks the water content they require to keep in their peak, healthy and glowing condition.
However, there are key variations in their causes and symptoms and they need separate ways of control.
Dry skin also referred to as lipoid skin, generally refers to skin lacking in oil production.
Dehydrated skin, on the other hand, is characterized by a lack of moisture (water) in the Stratum Corneum. This explains why even oily skin can experience dehydration. As I mentioned, dehydration is a lack of water, not oil. This means sebaceous oil activity can still be normal or even overactive in dehydrated skin.
For dry skin
Your first skincare must-have should be a moisturiser infused with nourishing, hydrating ingredients. I would recommend the Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance, complete with a BioReplenish Complex™ delivers a proven combination of key barrier lipids to help enhance the skin’s natural resilience and support barrier recovery. A prebiotic Chlorella Algae complex helps rebalance the skin’s natural microbiome for healthy-looking skin. Hyaluronic Acid, combined with Echinacea, Centella Asiatica and Aloe Vera, locks in hydration to help enhance the skin’s moisture content and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Unlike dry skin, dehydration is treatable with lifestyle changes. Replenishing your hydration levels is the first significant step, so it's important to drink plenty of water.
You can also treat it with hydrating skin products. I would definitely recommend our new circular hydration serum!
